One day and two big announcements for Iowa women's basketball player Caitlin Clark. While today's been a big day, tomorrow is probably even bigger. The photo above provides a clue as to the announcement being made on Wednesday.

First things first. Tuesday morning, Clark was named a preseason Associated Press (AP) All-American. When you consider the success of the University of Iowa women's basketball program over the years, you might be shocked to learn Clark is the first Hawkeye to ever receive that distinction. I know I was.

The other members of the 2021-22 preseason AP All-American team are NaLyssa Smith (Baylor), Paige Bueckers (Connecticut), Rhyne Howard (Kentucky), and Aliyah Boston (South Carolina).

Clark, a West Des Moines native, led Iowa to a 20-10 record last season and a trip to the Sweet 16. She started all 30 games and led the nation in six different statistical categories:

  • Assists-214
  • Made Field Goals-266
  • Total Points-799
  • Points Per Game-26.6
  • 3-Pointers Attempted-286
  • 3-Pointers Made-116

Despite all of that, the Associated Press placed Clark on their 2nd team. However, Clark was named a first-team All-American by The Athletic, WBCA, and USBWA.

Earlier today, Hy-Vee revealed they'll be holding a press conference Wednesday afternoon to announce a new partnership with Clark. Clark will appear at the press conference along with Hy-Vee's vice president of sports marketing, Matt Nickell. The press conference will be held at the Crossroad Park Hy-Vee in Coralville at 3:15 Wednesday afternoon, October 27.

The Iowa women's basketball team is ranked 9th in the nation in the Associated Press preseason poll. They open play with an exhibition game against Truman State on Thursday, November 4 in Iowa City. The regular season begins Tuesday, November 9 at 5:30 p.m. against New Hampshire. That game is also at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where college basketball fans in the state of Iowa will be able to see Clark play in person for the first time since she was in high school.
