Each Friday morning at 6:30 a.m., 98.1 KHAK's Brain & Courtlin pay tribute to an eastern Iowa First Responder. The weekly honoree receives a $25 gift card to Wild Hogs Saloon and Eatery in Walford.

Today, we honor Will Zamastil. Here is Will's nomination:

"My heroes are Will Zamastil and Larry Kacher. Will is a First Responder. Larry is my dad. He was at work and a piece of steel his co-worker was welding broke and hit my dad in the forehead. This wasn’t a little piece of steel. It was as big as a rim on a standard tire and it was probably 20 to 30 pounds. My dad's eyes rolled back in his head and he fell backward and hit the concrete floor of the shop. Will was the first responder to the shop and that’s where we met a longtime friend. Still, to this day, my family talks to him basically on a daily basis. I honestly can’t remember everything Will did but I feel like if Will wouldn’t have been there, my dad wouldn’t be here. My dad had to be flown to Iowa City and I remember thinking he wasn’t going to make it. That was 14 years ago and my dad is still alive. He has a stimulator because he has constant headaches. My dad is one tough son of a gun." - Desteny

Thank you for what you do and congratulations, Will, for being this week's First Responder Friday honoree.
