Fred Hoiberg will be announced as the next head coach of the Chicago Bulls at a 2pm news conference this afternoon. The search for his replacement in Ames has already begun. While the 'Hoiberg Hangover' will likely last several days, Cyclone fans need to focus on the future. There are some interesting names being tossed around by media outlets. Fran Fraschilla, Dana Altman, even Tim Floyd. I think there are two names that fans should remember and get to know. Chances are you'll be hearing one of their names in the coming days or weeks.

Jeff Hornacek was a star at Iowa State under Johnny Orr from 1982-86. The former walk-on is currently the head coach for the NBA's Phoenix Suns. Can he be lured way and back to Ames? If he's interested in job security and love from the fans, a move back to Iowa State could make sense. However, he's been with the Sun's organization a long time, and getting used to Iowa winter's again may prove to be too much for Hornacek and his family.

My bet is on ISU assistant T.J. Otzelberger. He knows the players, the system, and the Big 12 conference. He's also a great recruiter and is responsible for much of Iowa State's roster that has made 4 straight NCAA tournaments. However, Otzelberger has never been a head coach. Will they go with someone with more experience?

The coming days and weeks will be interesting for Cyclone fans. The Mayor has left for a larger city.
