Detroit Lions Coach to Become Iowa State Offensive Coordinator
When Matt Campbell left Iowa State, the Cyclones acted quickly and named Washington State coach Jimmy Rogers as the new head coach. Now it appears that Rogers has poached a top position coach from the NFL to be the Cyclones' new offensive coordinator.
Detroit Lions Position Coaching Headed to Ames
Pride of Detroit is reporting that Lions tight ends coach Tyler Roehl will be named the new offensive coordinator for the Iowa State Cyclones. The team has yet to officially announce the hiring.
Tyler Roehl Used to be a Coach at Iowa State
If the name Tyler Roehl sounds familiar to Iowa State fans, it is because he is just one year removed from being the Iowa State assistant coach/running backs coach under Matt Campbell, according to Pride of Detroit. He made the jump to the NFL last season when Lions HC Dan Campbell came calling.
Pride of Detroit points out that Roehl has had a rough year with the Lions as his best tight end, former Hawkeye Sam Laporta, was lost for the season following back surgery. Second-string tight end Brock Wright was also lost for the year with a neck injury.
When Will He Leave Detroit and Head to Ames?
Pride of Detroit reports that Roehl will finish out the regular season with Detroit and stay with the team for any potential playoff run as well.
