We Spend More Time on Our Phones Than We Do Sleeping
A new study found that the average person spends 8 hours and 21 minutes a day sleeping, and 8 hours and 41 minutes a day on their phone/laptop.
At first, that sounded crazy to me, but then I thought about all the nights I've stayed up an extra two hours because I was distracted by things in my phone, and it sounded much less ridiculous. On top of that, about 80% of us keep our phones on and right next to us while we're sleeping. 40% of those teenagers and adults also admit to checking their phones in the middle of the night, and 51% check the internet first thing in the morning. AND I DO ALL OF THESE THINGS.
It's no surprise that these habits are affecting our sleep schedules in a negative way, and a lack of good sleep can lead to all types of health problems. It is actually recommended that you turn your phone off 60-90 minutes before you go to bed, to help your brain rest. I probably won't ever do that, but it's a nice thought :)
