Waterloo’s Notorious Resident: John Wayne Gacy’s Story Returns in Scripted Series

One Waterloo resident has gone down in infamy as one of the sickest and most evil individuals the world has ever seen.

John Wayne Gacy, also known as the “Killer Clown” due to his clown persona Pogo, was originally born in Chicago, Illinois. However, he made a move to Waterloo, Iowa as a young newlywed.

In a documentary, he revealed some intimate details about his life in the Hawkeye State.

"I enjoyed the first two years of my married life. I was really wrapped into it. I just had such a nice warm feeling, and I was so happy with her. And the two kids Michael and Christine. It was like being in church all the time." 

"When we moved up to Iowa, it wasn't that my marriage was falling apart. It was after a year or so with her father. I couldn't handle her father, " Gacy said.

He made the move to Waterloo to manage three Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise restaurants that his father-in-law owned.

When John Wayne Gacy was convicted in 1980 and sentenced to death for killing 33 young men and boys, he had no clue just how much of a strange obsession people would have with his case years later.

So much so that he's been the subject of many documentaries including one released to Peacock several years ago called Devil In Disguise: John Wayne Gacy.

It was just announced at NBCUniversal’s TCA presentation, that this documentary would be getting the 'Dahmer' scripted series treatment, according to reports. It will stream on Peacock once the series is released.

Officials confirm that it will be a limited drama series with Patrick Macmanus as showrunner, executive producer, and writer.

"From 1972-1978, thirty-three young men were kidnapped, murdered and buried in a crawl space beneath their killer's house. And no one was the wiser. Not for all those years. Why? He was charming and funny. Had a good, All-American job. Was a community leader. He even volunteered to entertain sick kids… while dressed as a clown.

‘Devil In Disguise: John Wayne Gacy' peels back the twisted layers of John Wayne Gacy's life while weaving in the heartrending stories of his mostly gay victims; exploring the grief, guilt, and trauma of their families and friends; and exposing the systemic failures, missed opportunities and societal prejudices that fueled his reign of terror."

There is no information on just who will play the killer clown in the series. We will keep you updated as more casting news is made public. There is no word on just when this series is expected to premiere on the streamer either.
