Waterloo Roads Close For Yearlong Construction Project
Getting around Waterloo just got a bit more challenging.
If you're traveling in Downtown Waterloo, you better start planning to add a few additional minutes to your drive. A major road construction project has residents dealing with multiple detours and road closures for the next YEAR.
On Monday, April 11th road construction "officially" began on Park Avenue Bridge. Reports say that the reason for this closure is a bridge replacement. This project will last for a year and a half.
Park Avenue will be closed between Commercial Street and Sycamore Street. If you were in Waterloo over the weekend, you probably noticed that these roads were already closed before the official start date.
The picture below is from when the same bridge was closed several years ago.
In a Facebook post made over the weekend on the official City of Waterloo, Iowa page, officials said,
"Closures and detours will begin tomorrow, Monday, April 11 and last until fall of 2023 for areas near the Park Avenue Bridge."
You can check out a full list of all of the detours that will be in place over the course of the project.
