Officials discovered a body in the Cedar River Tuesday afternoon after a multiple day search for a missing boater.

Linn County Sheriff's Office search teams, along with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources recovered the body of a white male in the Cedar River yesterday afternoon. It was found around 2 miles south of the Palisades-Kepler State Park boat ramp. Officials say they believe it is the body of 59-year-old Ricky Veenstra of Cedar Rapids. He had been missing since Sunday morning.

Veenstra was an employee of Washington High School in Cedar Rapids where he worked as the lead building engineer. The Cedar Rapids School District released the following statement on Tuesday.

The entire WHS community and those throughout out school district who knew Rick Veenstra are grateful to the search and rescue personel for locating him and bringing some closure for the family. For those who knew Rick personally, he touched every facet of our school...and was an active and lively participant in building positive Washington Warrior culture.

A positive identification of the body will be done by the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa.
