Iowa is full of cities and towns with unique names. Delhi, Nevada, heck there is even a Paris, Iowa. Most of these towns embrace their strange namesakes. But only one Eastern Iowa town can claim that they can be found in the popular fantasy game Dungeons and Dragons.

For those of you who are fans of the game, you probably already know the town I speak of. I'll admit, up until a few days ago, I had no idea that Quasqueton, Iowa wasn't just a city with a strange name. It can also be found in Dungeons and Dragons. Is it some amazing 'Quaskie' sized coincidence? Hardly. As the Cedar Rapids Gazette points out, it is all thanks to a man named Mike Carr, who helped put Quasqueton on the Dungeons and Dragons map, literally.

The Gazette reports that Carr once lived in Cedar Rapids from 1972 to 1974. He even worked at the old Ground Round restaurant. While working there, he first heard the name of the town Quasqueton. In his 20s, Carr would go on to publish the 'In Search of the Unknown' game module for D&D  in 1979. Game publisher TSR then published Carr's work that features a fictional stronghold that its builders and former residents guessed it...Quasqueton.

The Gazette reports that Carr, now 72 and living near Milwaukee, is set to visit Quasqueton on Saturday for an appearance at the Quasqueton Area Historical Society Museum. You'll even be able to grab a bright yellow bumper sticker that touts the significance of Quasqueton in the Dungeons and Dragons world. It reads, "Quasqueton-Former Home of Rogahn and Zelligar."

I'm not sure what that means, but I do know that millions of fans worldwide play Dungeons and Dragons. Much like the town of Riverside, Iowa has a future connection to Star Trek, Quasqueton has its own fictional history to be proud of. The meet and greet at the museum will take place Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
