The Derecho has Officially Been Declared as a ‘Billion-Dollar Disaster”

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, the August 10th Derecho has been officially declared as a 'Billion-Dollar" Disaster.

So far this year the US has seen 16 disasters each resulting in damages of over a billion dollars.

The Derecho was one of FOUR 'Billion-Dollar' events that took place in August. Having four weather disasters occur in one month has only happened a few other times in history.
