According to CBS2, "St Jude Church in Cedar Rapids announced Sunday it will cancel this year's Sweet Corn Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic."

If you ask me, this cancellation really makes it feel like we won't have a summer this year. I've been going to this festival since I moved to this city back in 1996. I don't think I've missed a year and I'm not even catholic!

The CBS story was short and had no other details. It did say the church plans to to go forward with the festival next year, in 2021. To read the full article, you can check out this link from CBS2.

My favorite memory of the festival was sitting in the beer garden playing bingo with my friends. We would hang out all afternoon laughing, eating, drinking and having a fun time. I have so many memories of this wonderful community event and I'm really going to miss it this year.

The festival was planned for August 7-9. The Sweet Corn Festival has been going on in Cedar Rapids for the last 45 years. Let's hope this is the only bump in the road and next year can be bigger and better.

I worked with organizers last year to help promote the event on our radio station. They were all super great people and fun to work with. I want to give a shout out to all of the volunteers that do so much to make the magic of the Sweet Corn Festival happen every year.

You guys rock!

And let's all keep praying and hope that life will get back to normal in the very near future.
