Beer lovers in Iowa's capital city are about to experience what Eastern Iowans have come to love about one of Solon's favorite breweries with the news that Big Grove Brewery is coming to Des Moines.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says the location has yet to be disclosed but plans have been in the works by development group for a spot that would include a brewery at 555 17th Street so that could certainly be where the Krause group is looking. Plans are to be open sometime between March and May of 2022.

With the original brewery in Solon having opened in 2013, expansion has always been goal for the owners of Big Grove, who later opened their Iowa City taproom in 2017. It may be just a matter of time before downtown Cedar Rapids welcomes them too. They are also selling their signature products in cans at stores and establishments across Iowa.

Des Moines is a good fit for Big Grove's latest taproom in part because of its agreement as the official beer partner to RAGBRAI. It's a crowded craft beer market in Des Moines though, with nearly 20 microbreweries, breweries and brewpubs in the area. The projected location of the Des Moines taproom is the old Crescent Chevrolet building, which was originally intended to be used as a Kum & Go training center. The complex will not only include the brewery but also a soccer field, hotels, apartments and pedestrian-focused public gathering space.
