The warm weather trend we've been enjoying doesn't have many negatives. But warm weather can bring the chance of severe storms, and Eastern Iowa will see its first real chance of severe Spring weather on Friday.

Our weather partner KCRG says that temperatures will continue to warm heading towards the end of the week. Highs on Wednesday afternoon will reach the lower 60s. Temperatures warm to the lower 70s on Thursday, with the biggest warm-up set for Friday where highs could reach the mid to upper 70s. KCRG notes that the winds will increase by Friday, bringing a substantial storm system to the area.

The first part of Friday is looking dry, according to KCRG. But those high southerly winds will bring in warmth and moisture setting the stage for possible storms late in the day and evening on Friday.

KCRG reports that the storm prediction center now has all of Eastern Iowa under the possible threat of severe weather on Friday. Most areas will see the storms start around 4 p.m. with the last of the system out of the area by midnight or sooner. KCRG reports that these will be fast-moving storms that will run around 50 miles per hour.

So what kind of severe weather could we see on Friday? KCRG reports that damaging winds, hail, and a few tornadoes are possible with this system. This is our first chance of severe weather this year, so make sure you and your family know what to do in case a severe storm affects your hometown!
