Sandbags Will Start Disappearing From Cedar Rapids Monday

If you've been driving around Cedar Rapids this week and noticed there's still a ton of sandbags lying around, that's about to change.

Residential sandbags will be picked up starting Monday, October 10. If you have a pile of 'em on your property, here's what you should do with 'em:

If space allows, sandbags can be placed in a driveway keeping one lane clear.
If the property is located on a low-traffic street, sandbags can be placed in the street leaving six inches of space between the curb and the sandbags to allow stormwater to reach drains.
Sandbags can be placed in the public right-of-way (ROW) next to the street.

PLEASE to not put sandbags in alleys.

Get those sandbags to one of the above locations by no later than 7 a.m. Monday, October 10. You only get one shot as crews won't be coming more than once. You're also asked not to park near sandbag piles because removal equipment won't have access to them. Any bags not placed at an above location by 7 a.m. Monday or that are inaccessible, will be your responsibility to remove.

The pickup process is expected to take at least three weeks. Want to get rid of them sooner? You can still drop them off at the Noelridge Park parking lot, through October 10. The Ellis Park drop-off site near the tennis courts will stay open through Friday, October 14.

In a few weeks, this big sign of the Cedar River Flood of 2016 will have all but disappeared.
