A late-afternoon accident on Highway 13 in Linn County, resulted in the death of one person.

According to a release from the Linn County Sheriff's Department, a call came in at 5:22 p.m. Thursday afternoon of a person down on Highway 13. Linn County Sheriff's Deputies, Linn County Sheriff's Rescue, along with Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, West Bertram Fire, and Area Ambulance all responded to the scene.

The incident involved a person that had been hit by a semi on Highway 13, just south of Mt. Vernon Road. The person was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 45-year-old Chad Lutter of Marion.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office says, though it's still very early in the investigation, it appears Lutter stepped in front of the semi.

The right lane of southbound Highway 13 was closed for several hours Thursday evening while emergency crews were on the scene and for an investigation of the accident. The Linn County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate.
