Person Found Dead in Iowa City Car Fire Identified
[UPDATED 3/20 2:30 P.M.] Iowa City Police have announced 72-year-old Donald Lee Schrader of Iowa City died in a Monday night car fire. A police investigation determined the fire started in the passenger compartment of the vehicle and there were no suspicious circumstances or crimes related to the fire's cause. An autopsy is being completed and until results are known, the investigation remains open.
[ORIGINAL STORY] A fire called into Iowa City authorities Monday evening ended with a fatality.
According to a release from Iowa City Police, the Iowa City Fire and Police Departments were called to a vehicle fire in a parking lot at 1213 Gilbert Ct. in Iowa City at 10:49 Monday evening. The 911 caller reported someone was in the vehicle that was on fire.
After extinguishing the fire, firefighters confirmed a deceased person in the vehicle. Investigators from the Iowa City Police Department then responded and continue to investigate the circumstances around the fire, trying to determine if a crime was committed. No other information is available as the investigation continues.
