It's not often that you come across an obituary that makes you chuckle. Usually these articles are serious, heartfelt, and in many cases sad.

This obituary of a northeast Iowa man is certainly heartfelt, but it's also just downright funny. The family of 63-year-old Spillville native, Tim Schrandt, made sure that the sense of humor of their loved one shined through in his obituary. The first line of the obituary starts out with..."Tim Schrandt (Lynyrd) made his last inappropriate comment on March 29, 2019."

As we gathered from the writing, Schrandt was someone who would "tell it like it is". He was a unique guy who "never met a rule he couldn’t break, a boundary he couldn’t push, a line he couldn’t cross and a story he couldn’t stretch." Schrandt wasn't afraid to share his opinions. Tim worked as a tool and die maker at Camcar/Stanley Black and Decker in Decorah for 30 plus years and his family states that he worked with many friends and “a bunch of morons” (Tim's words, minus the swear words).

There were so many light-hearted remarks in the writing that it made it a joy to read despite the circumstances. As the reading states, Schrandt "did not lose his battle with cancer. When he died, the cancer died, so technically it was a tie! He was ready to meet his Maker, we're just not sure "The Maker" is ready to meet Tim." The Courier reports that the guestbook filled up with hundreds of entries from people all over the world wishing they would have known him.

Despite his rough exterior and "stubbornness", his family describes him as a loving, giving person that they will miss very much. The family also stated that they were considering setting up a Go-Fund-Me account for the brewers of Old Style Beer, as they anticipate the brewers will be experiencing a significant hardship from losing Tim's business.
