A new bill being considered by the Iowa House would get rid of the front license plate on your vehicle. The Iowa Department of Transportation says the move could save them $500,000 a year.

Not everyone is behind the move. Law enforcement officials say that removing the front plate would make it harder for them to do their job. They say front and rear plates make it easier to identify vehicles in criminal investigations and Amber Alerts.

The Iowa Automobile Dealers Association supports the bill, saying that most new models of vehicles are not made to hold the front license plate. So far, the Iowa DOT has not taken a side.

19 U.S. states do NOT require front license plates on vehicles.
