The holidays are right around the corner and if you've been wanting hone in on your skills at the range, learn to shoot or take a class, now is the perfect time to give yourself a little gift.

I was familiar with shooting growing up, but after going through the Iowa Permit to Carry class at Midwest Shooting, and trying out different guns at the range, I've come a long way. When I got my Iowa Permit to Carry and was looking at what type of protection I wanted, the associates at Midwest Shooting were there with me every step of the way.

As I was trying out different firearms at the indoor range consisting of 19, 25-yard lanes with automated target retrieval systems, an associate was there with me to gauge my thoughts on each. They explained the features of each firearm before I shot, made sure I knew how to load and unload the weapon, and offered pointers on my shooting. I've shot at outdoor ranges before, but it was nice being inside and having an expert there to guide me and offer advice on what I could adjust to stay more on target.

This was a "try before you buy" experience that Midwest Shooting offers, but normally before you can use the range, you have to be a range member. It's fairly easy to become a member and they have a variety of memberships available to best fit your needs. All new members must stop in the store and sign up, and attend a safety orientation. The orientation is only about 20 minutes long and they cover general firearms safety, range rules and range etiquette. This orientation really made me recognize proper etiquette when shooting.

Not only was the "try before you buy" option nice, but Midwest Shooting has a HUGE selection. It was nice having an associate help me narrow down exactly was I was looking for because it can definitely be overwhelming. Everything from handguns to rifles and more, they've got plenty to choose from. As you can see, I enjoyed browsing.

If you're not quite at the buying stage yet and are more of a beginner and looking to learn the basics of shooting, take the Pull The Trigger-Beginner Level Class. It's a three and a half hour beginner handgun class where you'll learn the fundamentals of shooting a handgun. The class incorporates classroom instruction with certified instructors, state-of-the-art, interactive simulator technology, and individual instruction during live fire on our indoor range. It's the perfect place to start. Midwest shooting offers private lessons and women's only classes too, if that makes you feel more comfortable. The key is to be comfortable, confident, and safe.

Whether you're in the market for a new firearm, want to take the Iowa Permit to Carry class like I did, or just want to try out the range, I highly recommend you give Midwest Shooting a shot. The holidays are coming up so treat yourself.
