Marion Uptown Market Changing Locations

Looking outside right now doesn't exactly make you think of a farmer's market. But cities are planning on how to hold these events this summer once the weather is nice and warm. Last week, Cedar Rapids announced that in person downtown farmers markets would return. Now, the city of Marion is announcing plans for their Uptown Market.

The Uptown Marion Market, held in the summer and early fall, is now accepting applications for vendors, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Marion faces the challenge of not only the ongoing pandemic, but a busy construction season in the city too. Last summer the markets were held on Sixth Avenue instead of City Square Park to help with crowd flow and control. But neither of those locations are available this summer due to construction projects in Uptown Marion.

The Gazette reports that this summer, Marion's streetscape project with close portions of 7th Avenue. The old Marion Square Plaza will be transformed into Broad and Main with the new Marion Library in the heart of the new development. So this summer's Marion markets will held in a city owned parking lot at 8th Avenue and 12th Street.

Last summer masks were required for all vendors and staff and strongly suggested for anyone else attending. Officials say that they will likely have those same rules again this year. The Gazette reports that officials in Marion say that hopefully by the summer, more people will be vaccinated and adjustments can be made.
