Route 91 Harvest Festival Shooter’s Girlfriend Back in U.S., Being Questioned
Marilou Danley, the girlfriend of Stephen Paddock, the man who opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Sunday night (Oct. 1), has returned to the United States and is being questioned by law enforcement officials. Both the police and Danley's sister have helped piece together the circumstances that led to her being overseas when Paddock killed at least 59 people and injured more than 500 more.
According to CNN, Danley landed in Los Angeles, Calif., on Tuesday evening (Oct. 3), after flying back from Manila, in the Philippines. It is unclear when Danley originally left the United States, but she flew into Manila from Tokyo, Japan, on Sept. 15. According to CNN, she traveled to Hong Kong, China, on Sept. 22, then back to Manila on Sept. 25.
"I know that she don't know anything as well like us," Danley's sister, whose name was not given, tells 7 News, a CNN affiliate in Australia (Danley's sister lives in Australia's Gold Coast region). "She was sent away. She was away so that she will be not there to interfere with what he's planning."
Country Stars Respond Following Route 91 Harvest Festival Shooting
Danley, 62, was originally described as a person of interest in the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting. U.S., Philippines and Australia authorities were all involved in finding her. Danley's sister says that Danley "didn't even know that she was going to the Philippines, until Steve said, 'Marilou, I found you a cheap ticket to the Philippines.'"
Sometime prior to the shooting -- an exact date is not yet known -- Paddock wired $100,000 to the Philippines.
"No one can put the puzzles together, no one, except Marilou, because Steve is not here to talk anymore," Danley's sister says. "Only Marilou can maybe help."
In a statement delivered through a lawyer on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 4), Danley confirmed that Paddock had purchased her plane ticket back to the Philippines, and that he had wired her money. She thought he was breaking up with her, not planning a mass shooting.
