Man Charged With Murder In Death Of His Iowa City Father
A 30-year-old man, originally charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, is now charged with first-degree murder after the death of the man he allegedly stabbed.
Flannery Huston Kennedy-Meier (pictured below) was arrested the afternoon of Monday, November 13 following the stabbing of his 63-year-old father, Mark A. Meier of Iowa City. The Iowa City Press-Citizen said at the time that, during the assault, the elder Meier suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed.
Monday, December 4, Mark Meier died from the injuries he sustained in the stabbing. The following day, a Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office autopsy revealed the cause of death was complications from a blunt force injury. The autopsy concluded the death was a homicide.
A release from the City Of Iowa City today (December 12) reveals the Johnson County Attorney’s Office has announced Flannery Huston Kennedy-Meier has had the charge against him upgraded to Murder in the 1st Degree. Kennedy-Meier remains in the Johnson County Jail.
