Local Breweries Take Place In ‘Battle Of The Brews’

Area breweries are set to battle it out this weekend in the first-ever 'Battle Of The Brews' at Newbo in Cedar Rapids. The event happens on Saturday, July 20th and all the proceeds raised will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The event was organized by MDA.

The competition will feature 19 breweries from all over Iowa. Each brewery had to submit one 'battle beer' to the competition. Those beers will be judged by people attending the event along with a panel of judges. A judges choice award and a people's choice award will then be handed out. In addition to the beer tasting, there will be live music, market shopping, food trucks, and outdoor games.

Even though this is the first year for the event, organizers hope it becomes an annual event. MDA officials say they hope to raise $5,000 at the inaugural event. The Battle of the Brews will run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
