Six Painted Pianos to Appear in Newbo and Czech Districts
If you saw a piano out in public, waiting to be played, which song would you choose? Chopsticks? Beethoven? Mary Had a Little Lamb? Residents will soon have the chance to display their keyboard skills in public, as several painted pianos are about to appear in Cedar Rapids.
Painted Pianos Coming to Czech and Newbo Neighborhoods
CBS2 reports that six donated and painted pianos will be placed throughout the Czech and Newbo districts as part of a community project to combine music, art, and local culture. The project is the creative effort of the New Bohemian and Czech Village Group. Organizers tell CBS2 that the project aims to create an interactive experience that brings the community together.
Where Will the Pianos Be Located?
The six painted pianos will be available to play at the following locations.
- NewBo City Market
- Iowa Running Company
- Almost Famous Popcorn
- Kickstand
- The National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library
- I'll Meet You There
CBS2 reports that each piano is designed and created by its host organization.
When Will the Pianos Be Available to Play?
According to CBS2, the pianos will be activated on June 21st, during Cedar Rapids' Make Music Day celebration. At noon that day, all six pianos will be played simultaneously as part of the kickoff event. After that, the pianos will remain through the summer for anyone to play.
