Linn County Town Asks for Help on GoFundMe
Two weeks ago tomorrow (June 28), the small Linn County town of Prairieburg was hit by an EF-2 tornado. Much was destroyed including what the town's mayor, Arlene Holub, told KWWL is "just a hub of everything." She's talking about Baker Community Park.
The park's playground and shelter were destroyed and the picnic tables simply disappeared with the tornadic winds that were estimated at 120 miles-per-hour, according to KCRG. The 30-year-old park was built by volunteers in 1987 and with a population of just 178 (2010 census), Prairieburg needs financial help to rebuild it. They've started a GoFundMe page seeking money to do just that. Their goal is not only to raise $20,000 but to also have the park rebuilt by the town's annual Labor Day weekend tractor pull.
I grew up in a small eastern Iowa town, too. Sigourney isn't as small as Prairieburg certainly, but I understand their struggle. If you'd like to help 'em out, here's the GoFundMe link. They still have a long way to go, but I expect the good people of eastern Iowa will get them there.
