Do You Prefer Eating Eggs Like Most Iowans?
There's a chance you've already celebrated today's holiday and you didn't even know it yet. Happy National Egg Day!
I'm convinced there's a holiday for just about everything these days...but that's a rant for a different article.
What An Egg-cellent Day!
In America, we use eggs in, what feels like, everything. Anytime you watch an American movie or TV show, the family is having eggs for breakfast. Anytime you run to the grocery store, you likely need to stack up on a carton of eggs.
According to USA Today, Eggs are the number 1 most popular breakfast food in America. My wife and I served "breakfast for dinner" at our wedding last September and of course, eggs were one of the most popular choices, along with the unlimited bacon.
One of the Healthiest Foods?
While people with high cholesterol might shy away from eating eggs regularly, they are considered one of the healthiest foods on the planet. According to Healthline, eggs are one of nature's superfoods and are often referred to as nature's multivitamin. One single egg is loaded with a wide range of nutrients.
- Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) -
- Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid)
- Selenium
Healthline adds that "eggs also contain small amounts of almost every vitamin and mineral required by the human body."
Most Popular Way Iowans Eat Eggs
In my opinion, there's no wrong way to eat eggs. Whether they're scrambled, sunny side up, over easy, poached, or hard-boiled, etc, you can't go wrong no matter how you prepare them.
While they all taste delicious, there is one champion in Iowa. I might be in the minority on this one but if they're made this way, I prefer them a little more runny than overcooked.
According to Lunds, Iowans prefer their eggs scrambled. This is the most popular way to enjoy eggs across the country as 17 other states also prefer their eggs scrambled as opposed to other preparations.
Sunny side up was the second most popular preference as 14 states like their eggs with the yokes dripping. Poached eggs were the most popular in 7 states, and the least popular was hard-boiled, which is only the District of Columbia.
Eating eggs regularly can help you lose weight, support brain health, and they can help keep you feeling full during the day. Enjoy National Egg Day and maybe you should enjoy "breakfast for dinner" tonight to celebrate!
