Iowans Could See An Amazing Northern Lights Display TONIGHT
Mother Nature does know how to put on a show. She had the Nothern Lights on last night and many missed it. Wildfire smoke, cloud cover, whatever it was the lights were obscured from view. The Nature family should have a big fan or something so we can blow those clouds out and see these celestial events.
When can you see the Northern Lights?
Luckily Mother Nature has agreed to keep the North Lights on again, possibly. If you believe the wizardry of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, they think Iowa could see some Northern Lights tonight or tomorrow night. Within a few miles of the middle of Iowa is about the cut-off according to the forecast map.
Where do you see the North Lights in Iowa?
According to the Des Moines register the best places to see the Northern Lights in Iowa are dark areas with an unobstructed view looking north and away from city lights. Unobstructed because the Northern Lights like to hide from you behind buildings. They're very playful like that. The best time to see the lights is between 10 PM and 3 AM. That's kinda late to be out on a school night Northern Lights, you should keep that in mind. Maybe show up during the day so the kids can see you but I'm the lights are set in their ways.
Why can Iowans see the Northern Lights?
You might wonder how Iowa could be seeing the Northern Lights. Are they not supposed to be only of the north? North is in the name. I guess light likes to travel too and see the sites. I'm giving you a very scientific explanation of this complex situation. Yes, light uses a travel agent.
