The NCAA Tournament's second day saw the Iowa men & women, the UNI men, and Iowa State women all in action. Overall, the outcomes were very good.

The Iowa State women were the first to the floor today, and the only one of the four to lose. The Cyclones had four players in double figures, but trailed by eight at the half & lost to Dayton 78-66. Their season ends at 18-13.

Next to the floor were the UNI men. The Panthers had five players in double figures, led by Paul Jesperson's 16. The Panthers won by 17 and now take on #4 seed Louisville Sunday. The Cardinals had all they could handle in UC Irvine, winning 57-55. It may not be one of Rick Pitino's best teams, but Sunday will be a toughie. Pitino's tournament record is 51-17... second in wins to Duke's Mike Krzyzewski. Sunday's game time has not yet been announced.

One of Cedar Rapids', and UNI's favorite sons (Kurt Warner) was at the game:

The Iowa Hawkeye women hit the floor at Carver-Hawkeye early this afternoon and disposed of American University. All five Hawkeye starters scored in double figures, led by Ally Disterhoft's 18.

Up next for the Lady Hawks is an approximate 11 am tip-off Sunday against Miami... also in Iowa City.

Finally, the Hawkeye men's basketball team ended the school's 14-year NCAA Tournament victory drought with an 83-52 win over Davidson. Aaron White completely took control of the game in the second half, scoring 13 consecutive at one point. He had 26 in the game... the most by a Hawkeye in the NCAA Tournament since Dean Oliver scored 26 versus Kentucky in 2001. Iowa's margin of victory was the largest in NCAA Tournament history by a #7 seed over a #10. Sunday, Iowa will take on the winner of the Gonzaga/North Dakota State game. Game time has yet to be announced.

As far as NCAA tourney days go... it's difficult to have a much better one. Good luck to all three in making more magic on Sunday. Here's hoping the Iowa women fill Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It would be a fitting tribute to a tremendous team.
