Iowa State Avoids Upset And Moves On In NCAA Tournament
When you're filling out your NCAA Tournament bracket, one of the matchups that's always prime for an upset is the 12 seed versus 5 seed. Going into last night's Iowa State vs. Nevada game, we'd already seen 5 seed Minnesota lose to 12 seed Middle Tennessee State. ISU would not suffer the same fate.
5 Cyclones scored in double digits led by point guard Monte Morris with a line of 19 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. The Cyclones held off Nevada 84-73 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. Iowa State led by as many as 15 in the first half and held Nevada to 30% shooting.
With Morris on the bench in the second half, Nevada cut the deficit to only 4, but a 7-0 Cyclone run with 8 minutes left put the game out of reach.
Up next for Iowa State is a date with 4 seed Purdue. That game is Saturday at 8:40 p.m. on TBS. With a win, ISU would be in the Sweet 16 for the second straight year.
