Iowa’s Most Popular Zillow Listing in 2023 Needs Lots of Work

I kind of feel like Zillow has become a hobby for some people. Sure, it's great if you're looking to buy a house. But. it's also fun to dream about properties you'll never be able to afford, as well as criticize ones for their weird features.

Late last year, Zillow published a list of "The Most Popular Zillow Listing in Every State" for 2023. After scrolling through a bunch of gorgeous, expensive homes, I was surprised when I came across Iowa's most popular listing. It's not exactly what I was expecting...

Located at 10375 94th Avenue in Ottumwa, this single family home was built in 1850 and it's located on nine-acres of land. It's 2,332 square-feet and has four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The Zillow article says that the features that make the home unique include "vaulted ceilings fitted with natural wood beams, charming arched Tudor-style doors, exposed brick, and a darling scalloped fireplace mantel just waiting to be brought back to life." The home actually has a total of FIVE fireplaces, as well as a wine cellar and a garage/utility building.

As charming as some of the features are, it's clear from the photos that the home needs a LOT of work. In fact, it has no functioning heat system and needs a new septic system, too. The Zillow listing says that it "requires extensive renovation to make it livable." It also mentions that the house has pretty low ceilings, so it's not ideal for anyone tall. Here's a look inside:
