Hawkeye Football Fan Gets Hit in the Head by Iowa Kickoff [WATCH]
Iowa's win over Washington on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City will be remembered for a few different things. The Hawkeyes bounced back after their loss to Ohio State with a convincing win over a good team in the Big Ten. Kirk Ferentz got win number 200 in the Big Ten. He sits only five wins behind Woody Hayes for the all-time record. But perhaps the thing I'll remember most about Saturday's game was a fan named Joe who got hit in the face by a football.
I don't often think of football when it comes to sporting events where you need to keep your head on a swivel. At a baseball game? Sure, you have to watch for foul balls that occasionally come into the stands. But at a football game, you're relatively safe. Or so we thought. During Iowa's game against Washington on Saturday, an Iowa Hawkeye kickoff to the Huskies traveled through the endzone for a touchback. But TV cameras caught another story. A fan who was preparing to catch the ball got hit right in the face. Leave it to the Iowa Hawkeye Radio Network to track down the fan for an interview. Here is sideline reporter Rob Brooks talking to 'Joe' about what happened!
"That balls going a lot faster than you really think it is." Perhaps the quote of the year from an Iowa fan named Joe who got hit in the face with a football. My favorite part is Iowa football announcers Gary Dolphin and Pat Angerer laughing at poor Joe's explanation. But like a true Hawkeye, Joe got up. Because Hawkeyes never quit!
The Hawkeyes travel to Michigan State for a night game Saturday. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. on NBC.
