Iowa City Police Investigating Multiple Robberies
The Iowa City Police Department is investigating three robberies, one involving a person sitting in a parked vehicle.
The first reported armed robbery happened Tuesday evening, January 31, at around 9:24 in the 800 block of Bowery Street in Iowa City. A male reported he was walking when a man walked up to him and asked what time it was. When he answered, the man pointed a black handgun at the victim's face and demanded money. The man turned over his keys, wallet, and cell phone and the suspect fled.
The victim, who was not injured, described the suspect as a black male who was about 5-feet 11-inches tall with a medium build. The victim believed the man was in his late twenties to early thirties and said he was wearing baggy dark-washed jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.
During that investigation, Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications received a call from a North Liberty resident advising they had been a victim of a robbery in the parking lot of 740 Westwinds Drive. The victim told Iowa City Police she was parked, waiting for her fourteen-year-old son to get into the vehicle. As he got into the passenger seat, a man approached, pointed a black handgun at her son and demanded money. They told the man they had no money and he took a purse from inside the vehicle, dumped it, and fled on foot.
Neither the woman or her son were injured. They described the suspect in this robbery as a black male, 5-foot-11 inches to 6-feet tall with a medium to heavy build. The victims said he was unshaven and wearing a black stocking hat, a navy blue or dark gray sweatshirt, and dark pants.
A third robbery happened this morning, Wednesday, February 1, at just after 2:20. Iowa City Police responded to a call of a robbery in the 10 block of South Dubuque Street. A male victim reported three other males approached him and demanded money. The victim said he was assaulted by the three, who took personal property and then fled. He sustained minor injuries.
The three suspects, in this case, were described as:
1)A black male, 6-feet two-inches tall, wearing a black puffy coat.
2)A black male, 5-feet eight to 5-feet 10-inches tall and wearing a dark beanie and a hoodie.
3)A black male wearing a dark colored sports jacket.
