It will soon be more than a "helpful smile in every aisle" at your local Hy-Vee store. The grocery store chain announced on Wednesday that they will soon be adding a new brand of security to all of the stores in eight U.S. states.

According to North Iowa Today, the company will be adding what they call Hy-Vee Retail Security to their stores. The security officers will be at Hy-Vee stores during operating hours. Many of the officers used come from a background in law enforcement. They are specially trained to diffuse certain situations in stores, and protect the safety of both Hy-Vee customers and employees. The training that the officers have been through was designed by Hy-Vee security leaders and members of law enforcement.

Hy-Vee president and CEO Jeremy Gosch said that the security teams will work alongside store employees and provide another layer of safety.

Hy-Vee has a strong history of doing anything for our customers, and these officers will be held to that same standard.   - Jeremy Gosch

Officers are reportedly in some Hy-Vee stores now, according to North Iowa Today, with more completing their training. Hy-Vee also announced that they are actively recruiting officers to work for the new Hy-Vee Security Team. Anyone interested can apply at RetailSecurity@hy-vee.com.
