Hurricane Matthew's path along the east coast did billions of dollars worth of damage but it also may have exposed some U.S. history dating to the Civil War.

in 1863, during the Civil War, Folly Beach Island near Charleston, South Carolina was home to 13,000 federal troops. After Hurricane Matthew stormed through over the weekend, residents went to the beach to inspect the damage left by the storm. According to a Facebook report, 16 cannon balls were uncovered from the civil war era. High tide kept authorities from recovering the civil war cannon balls.
