Holocaust Survivor Comes to Cedar Rapids to Share her Story

88-year-old Magda Brown will be sharing her touching story in both Cedar Rapids and Mount Vernon this weekend.

Magda, a member of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center’s speakers bureau, is a Holocaust survivor that travels all over the place to share her life experiences. When she was just 17-years-old, she was forced into a boxcar with 80 other people, where she spent three days being transported from Hungary to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp with no food or water. That was the last time she ever saw her parents.

Magda says that she still has recurring nightmares about the events, but she is inspired to share her story by the students she speaks to. She emphasizes three points during her speech - protect your freedom, think before you hate, and stand up to those who doubt you.
