98.1 KHAK First Responder Friday Honors Derek Denniston

Each Friday morning at 6:30 a.m., 98.1 KHAK's Brain & Courtlin pay tribute to an Eastern Iowa first responder. The weekly honoree receives a $25 gift card to Wild Hogs Saloon and Eatery in Walford and a $25 gift card to Honor and Respect.

Today we honor Derek Denniston, who was nominated anonymously! The entry reads:

"Derek is an outstanding Jones County Deputy Sheriff K9 handler. He currently has a K9 named Rudy. Derek's also the JCERT (Joint County Emergency Response Team) leader. When Derek is not keeping the streets safe as a deputy, he volunteers as a firefighter at the Wyoming Fire Department and is a board member of the Midland School Board. Derek is an amazing community leader that many look up to. Thanks for all you do, Derek!"
