Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds made several big announcements during a press conference on Sunday. KCRG reports that Governor Reynolds announced the first case of community-acquired transmission of COVID-19 in Johnson County. It is the third confirmed case of community spread in the state of Iowa.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics has confirmed that the patient is currently in isolation at the hospital. In a statement released on Sunday, hospital officials said that the patient came to emergency care complaining of symptoms consistent with COVID-19. They were admitted to the hospital. The patient wore a mask upon arrival and the hospital and staff took all the necessary precautions.

Hospital officials say the fact that this is the first community spread case of COVID-19 in Johnson County should remind everyone of the seriousness of the disease. Officials say they are confident in their preparedness for such patients.

This is the second patient with COVID-19 to be treated at UIHC.
