You probably don't give your router in your home much thought. When working properly, it just sits there doing what it does. Providing wireless internet access to your home. But the FBI is urging you to reset your router at home immediately. Malware is attacking routers around the world and yours could be next.

Over half a million routers in over 50 countries have been infected with the malware called VPNFilter. The malware can stop internet service, steal your information, and then use your router to spread the virus further. The FBI has seized the source of the malware.

Stopping the spread of the malware is important due to the fact that seemingly everything today is connected to the internet. Routers provide internet access to over 23 billion devices including everything from refrigerators to doorbells to thermostats and even that fancy Alexa device you have in your kitchen. Routers usually don't have any anti-virus protection.

The good news is the solution is simple. Just unplug your router for 30 seconds, plug it back in and let it reconnect to the internet. You also might want to change your network password and update the firmware.
