If I haven't mentioned it before, Iowans like to drive very fast. Is it the miles and miles of open road? Or is it lead-filled shoes that only allow you to stomp the pedal, rather than slowly accelerating like those other drivers?

You know the ones—slowpokes who only drive 70 to 80 mph? I mean, really, stay home if you're going to drive below 65, right? There's no time for that; we've already sped past it.

Which Iowans Are Winning at Driving?

The Iowa State Patrol reported on their Facebook page that an Iowa driver recently got into a little trouble with the law because of speed and a few other factors. Speed is one thing, but when coupled with alcohol, that's not a winning combination

The first driver was stopped on Saturday, February 1, 2025, by the Iowa State Patrol on I-29 near Sioux City, going 103 mph in a 65 mph zone. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the driver in that incident was also allegedly intoxicated, with a breathalyzer reading of twice the legal limit at a BAC of .212.

The second driver was a contender for the fastest speeding ticket ever in Iowa, but missed it by a few mph—actually, several mph. The day after the speeder from February 1st, on Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Hardin County Sheriff's Office posted on their Facebook page about another speedy Iowan.
