As we approach the fourth of July, America's Independence Day, we have to appreciate those who sacrificed to give us our freedom--Our veterans.

In honor of our WWII Veterans, the non-profit Collings Foundation's Wings of Freedom Tour is bringing five extremely rare bomber and fighter aircraft for the Local Living History display at the Waterloo Regional Airport.

The rare aircraft on display includes the B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine," B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft,” B-25 Mitchell "Tondelayo" bombers, P-51 Mustang "Toulouse Nuts" and P-40 Warhawk "Jaws" fighters. A press release states the aircraft will fly into the airport in Waterloo at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22 and remain there until they depart after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 25.

This is an extremely rare opportunity to not only see these remarkable pieces of history up-close but to explore them inside and out too! For up-close viewing and tours through the inside of the aircraft, adults are $15 and kids under 12-years-old are $5. There are discounted rates for school groups. Also, what's REALLY cool is they're offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience to take a 30-minute flight aboard these aircraft. For reservations and information on flight experiences call 800-568-8924.

The Wings of Freedom Tour will be on display on the ramp at Livingston Aviation located at 2814 Betsworth Drive at the Waterloo Regional Airport. It is "one of the most extraordinary and unique interactive traveling historical displays of its kind" and it's celebrating its 30th year. The tour "travels the nation as a flying tribute to the flight crews who flew them, the ground crews who maintained them, the workers who built them, the soldiers, sailors and airmen they helped protect; and the citizens and families that share the freedom that they helped preserve."

Local veterans and their families are encouraged to come out to the display to share their experiences and stories with the public. More information is available here.
