Eastern Iowa is Home to the Best Pie Shop in the State [PHOTOS]
If you want really good pie, Waterloo is the place to be!
Just yesterday (December 1st), the website 24/7 Wall St. put out a list of the best pies shops in all 50 states. To determine the official list, the company looked at sites like Yelp, The Daily Meal, Food Network, Thrillist, and Delish, as well as some local sites. Using those sources, the article names Try Pie in Waterloo as the best in the state of Iowa!
Try Pie isn't your average pie shop. According to their website, they are a non-profit organization with a mission to empower "a diverse group of teen girls in life and leadership skills through meaningful work." The site reads:
"Teens at Try Pie learn to manage their paychecks, prepare for future employment, understand their unique gifts, and recognize value in each other."
Try Pie offers flavors like pumpkin, pecan, Dutch apple, cherry, strawberry rhubarb, peach blackberry, and more, but the article from 24/7 Wall St. gives a special shout out to the apple pear cranberry. Apple Pear Cranberry is a seasonal flavor, so now is the time to give it a try!
The Try Pie storefront is located at 522 Mulberry Street in Waterloo and offers whole frozen pies and 4" mini baked pies. Whole frozen pies are also available at Hansen’s Dairy Outlets and Martin Bros. Food Market in Cedar Falls. You can also be on the lookout for their food truck during the summer months! If you'd like a whole baked pie, you can place an order in advance by calling Try Pie at 319-404-7008 or visiting them online HERE. The site also mentions that they have gluten-free pies and pie shakes, too!
The online reviews for Try Pie are overwhelmingly positive! The bakery has a 5 star rating on Yelp and a 5 star rating on Facebook! Facebook user Emily Huckfelt wrote:
"Great pies, and an even better mission! I didn't consider myself a pie person until eating here, and now I can't go very long without stopping by! Between their premade mini pies, and the frozen whole pies (call ahead if you'd like one baked for you), you really can't go wrong. Worth your time!"
Another review from Matthew Gibbon reads:
"Such an amazing place that does great things! The pies are fabulous! A Waterloo treasure!"
