Computer/Phone Scam Surfaces In Iowa.

We have received reports of a phone/computer scam and want to pass the information along.

Potential victims are being called on the phone and told that the caller works for Microsoft and has an "update" they need to walk the person through while on the phone. The caller then has the victim get on the internet on their home computer and instructs them to go to certain websites and click on certain links.  If the victim completes the tasks, the scammer then has remote access to the victim's computer and files in the computer. This scam has been reported in eastern Iowa and the Des Moines area as well.  The scam has also been reported by the Better Business Bureau.  If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft and they tell you to sign on your computer for an update that they will walk you through, you should hang up immediately.
