Cedar Rapids Road to Be Closed For Two-Way Conversion in October
Downtown Cedar Rapids has seen a number of conversions of one-way streets to two-way traffic and now the work is moving out of the city's core. Oakland Road in northeast Cedar Rapids is set to be closed beginning Monday, October 1 for perhaps an entire month.
According to a release from the City of Cedar Rapids, Oakland Road will be completely closed from 29th to 32nd Street in preparation for a large segment of the roadway being converted to two-way traffic. During October, crews will be doing water main and storm sewer work as well as asphalt resurfacing. Only that portion (29th to 32nd) of Oakland Road will be totally shut down with the area between J Avenue and 29th Street staying open to one lane of traffic.
When the process is finally complete, Oakland Road will be converted to two-way traffic all the way from H Avenue to 32nd Street.
The city expects to convert much of Center Point Road to two-way traffic in 2019.
