There will soon be more things to do for people, especially kids, in Cedar Rapids and Marion thanks to announcements via press releases from each city Thursday afternoon.

In Cedar Rapids, all 52 of the playgrounds in the city's park system will reopen on Monday, June 1. All the playgrounds have been disinfected while closed. The city's Parks and Recreation Department reminds all users to stay home if feeling under the weather, practice social distancing, and use hand sanitizer frequently. Not just before but during and after play, as well.

Also on June 1, city ballfields will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. If a group has a preexisting agreement for a field, that will take precedence. Pavillions in the parks will also be first-come, first-served. Restrooms will stay closed and you're asked to take your trash with you.

Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation staff will reinstall basketball hoops and nets for sand volleyball courts next week. Tennis courts are already open. Signs at each location will show guidelines that are recommended.

The Riverside Skate Park is also set to reopen on June 1.

Due to a proclamation by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, splash pads will stay closed through at least June 17.

Golfers, you'll be able to swing your clubs at Twin Pines Golf Course beginning Thursday, June 4 with a number of social distancing rules in place. Jones Golf Course will remain closed and may open, depending on demand at Twin Pines.

In Marion, the city's 21 parks will reopen playgrounds, basketball courts, ball diamonds, fitness trail equipment, and the skate park on Monday, June 1.

As in Cedar Rapids, frequent use of hand sanitizer is recommended at Marion park playgrounds and restrooms in the parks will stay closed.

In Marion, pavilions and shelters will be first-come, first-served with no reservations.

Marion's Thomas Park and Gill Park splash pads remain closed, for the time being.

It looks like it's going to be a beautiful weekend to get outside. Enjoy, but please remember to do it safely.
