Casey's is growing and on the move in Cedar Rapids. Sort of.

After making logo and branding changes, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reports the convenience store chain needed more space in northwest Cedar Rapids and it didn't have to look very far.

They won't really be moving, but upgrades are certainly coming to their location at 641 Edgewood Rd. NW. They closed on the sale of an adjacent property and church building on August 31. Casey's plans to tear down the church. At their current location, between the store, car wash, and gas pump island, the property sits at just over 5,000 square feet. They have big plans for the additional 9,505 square feet of space they've acquired.

Rezoning on the property was approved on May 12, and Prairie Lakes, which has churches across Iowa, sold the property for $2.5 million after essentially outgrowing the building, deciding it wasn't suitable for their church growth and ministry needs. They will use money from the sale to pay off what's left of their mortgage and to expand growth at their other churches.

Prairie Lakes' exit is Casey's and Cedar Rapids' gain. Once construction plans are approved, the expansion will take place throughout 2021.

Casey's recently dropped the "General Store" moniker from its name and modernized its logo. If you missed it, find out more here.
