Carson King Gets “Iowa Legend” Bobblehead [PHOTO]
It was another amazing weekend for Carson King, the young man whose sign asking for donations to his Venmo account last month turned into an incredible fundraiser for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
Friday, Carson presented a check for $3,004,200.14 to the hospital. The fundraising numbers from a tweet from the hospital are incredible. More than 35,000 people from all 50 states donated money. Twenty percent of the total money raised came from Iowa... $600,000. Three of the other top states for donations were here in the heart of Big 10 country: Nebraska, Minnesota, and Illinois. The other in the top five was California, which has certainly had their own share of troubles with recent forest fires.
Saturday night, Carson was at Kinnick Stadium for the second time since the fundraising began, this time being recognized by the sellout crowd.
Today, exactly one month after Carson King held up that sign in Ames, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has announced a Carson King "Iowa Legend" bobblehead. A rendering of the bobblehead, which is available for pre-order now, is below. It's expected to be available in January. Five dollars from each one sold will go to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital King Family Fund.
Carson was honored by the bobblehead saying,
It’s amazing that a regular guy wanting to do something nice can spark a movement of generosity. To be honored with a bobble head that will continue to help raise money for worthy projects is enough to leave a guy speechless.
