Say Hello to the New WNBA Leader in Assists!

In what was once an up-and-down rookie season, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark has hit her stride. The Fever are in the playoff race. She recorded the first rookie triple-double in league history. And now she is officially a league leader in one of the main statistical categories.

When Clark was drafted first overall by Indiana many basketball experts said that it would be her passing, not her scoring, that would make the biggest impact for the Fever. Clark has been piling up the assists of late. According to Sports Illustrated, Caitlin has 194 assists through the first 25 games of the WNBA season. She is only 32 assists away from breaking the rookie record for assists in a season. The Fever still has 15 games left during the regular season. But now Clark is doing more than just setting rookie records.

Clark has officially passed Connecticut guard Alyssa Thomas as the WNBA leader in assists per game, according to SI. Thomas finished with just 3 assists in Connecticut's win over Phoneix. Clark had six dimes in the Fever's win over Minnesota on Sunday, raising her season average up to 7.8 assists per game.

Clark is the second rookie to lead the league in a major statistical category. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese leads the league in rebounds at 12 per game, according to SI. Clark and Reese are battling for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award and will be teammates during the WNBA All-Star game.
