Brain Takes The Family To The Maquoketa Caves [GALLERY]
My last trip to the Maquoketa Caves was when I was a nine year old. Despite seeing so many pictures from people who have recently gone, including Courtlin last year, I hadn't made the trip since I had kids of my own. So Sunday we all put on our hiking shoes and set out for the hills of Jackson County!
Maquoketa Caves State Park is tucked off of a gravel road and I'll admit it. Using GPS will be helpful in getting there. Once you're there and parked, the exploring begins! You can grab a map or just take off unprepared like we did. The scenery is breathtaking. The caves vary in sizes and really allow for some fun exploring! You can get as wet and dirty as you want! Our kids loved it, especially Chase. He was off climbing and exploring every nook and cranny he could get to!
We hiked for around 2 hours and by the end, we were pretty wiped out. Fortunately for us, Bluff Lake Catfish Farm was only about 2 miles away! A great meal wrapped up a fun trip to Maquoketa!
