Following heavy rain in the corridor on Monday, September 3, two people ended up in Indian Creek in Cedar Rapids after their kayak overturned. About 45 minutes later, 30-year-old Samantha Conley was rescued from atop a pile of debris. Three days later, authorities believe they've recovered the body of her 34-year-old husband John Conley.

According to a release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, deputies, along with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department and cadaver dogs and their handlers, were searching Indan Creek Thursday afternoon when a man's body was found in Indian Creek. The body was located at 3:36 p.m., about 200 meters north of Mt Vernon Road.

A positive identity on the scene wasn't possible, but KCRG reports officials tell them that they believe the body is that of John Conley. The man's body was taken to St. Luke's Hospital. The Linn County Sheriff's Office will continue the investigation.

Water in area rivers and creeks will continue to move very quickly over the next week as flooding continues. Please heed the warnings and stay out of area waterways at this time.
