[UPDATED] 9/4/18 3 p.m.

Cedar Rapids Police have released the names of the two people who went into the water Monday afternoon in Indian Creek after their kayak overturned. 30-year-old Samantha M. Conley was rescued by firefighters and treated and released at an area hospital. 34-year-old John M. Conley is still missing.

Firefighters continued their search for Mr. Conley by boat this morning, but the search is now land-based and with drones overhead, as the level of Indian Creek continues to rise and is too dangerous for boats.

[ORIGINAL STORY] Cedar Rapids Firefighters conducted a swift water rescue Labor Day afternoon in southeast Cedar Rapids, rescuing one but another person is still missing.

According to a release from Cedar Rapids Public Safety Communications Coordinator, Greg Buelow, it is believed a kayak overturned on Indian Creek at approximately 4:15 p.m. Cedar Rapids Police and Firefighters were called to the scene in the 1800 block of Timber Wolfe Trail SE at 4:28 p.m.

Firefighters were able to take a boat upstream on Indian Creek from Rosedale Road. According to the release, a female was rescued at 5:04 p.m., but a male is still missing. Both victims are believed to be in their 30's. The Johnson County Dive Team has been asked to assist in the rescue attempt.

Authorities remind everyone that eastern Iowa waterways are currently extremely dangerous thanks to heavy rains. The water in Indian Creek is moving quickly and there is a great deal of debris.
